1.Site Survey and Planning: Prior to installing a Rubber-Tired Gantry Crane (RTG), a detailed site survey must be conducted, and all measurement data (such as ground slope, bearing capacity, and any obstructions) must be analyzed. Based on this analysis, a comprehensive crane installation plan should be developed to ensure the safe and orderly execution of the installation work.

2.Preparation of Materials and Equipment: All necessary materials (including fasteners) and tools/equipment must be prepared and inspected in advance. This includes:

  • Hand Tools: Wrenches, pry bars, pliers, etc.
  • Equipment: Welding machines, oxy-fuel cutting equipment, lifting slings, jacks, and measuring instruments (level, theodolite).
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order and has undergone necessary maintenance.

    3.Site Organization and Personnel Management:

    • Task Allocation: Clearly define roles and responsibilities for the installation crew, assigning leads for each phase (uncrating, assembly, erection, connection).
    • Site Preparation: Clear and level the work area. Establish clear markings and warning signs to cordon off the danger zone and ensure safety.
    • Safety Briefing: Conduct a job-specific safety briefing for the entire team, emphasizing the unique risks of this project.

    4. Selection and Use of Lifting Equipment: For assembling and erecting the RTG components (main girder, legs), a mobile crane (typically a truck-mounted crane) is usually required.

    • Determining Requirements: The number and capacity of mobile cranes are determined based on:
      • The weight and dimensions of the heaviest and largest RTG components.
      • The span (width) of the crane being installed.
    • General Rule: For installing double-girder RTGs with large spans and high tonnagetwo mobile cranes are typically required for synchronized lifting and precise positioning of major sections. For erecting single-girder cranes with a smaller spanone mobile crane may be sufficient.
    • Critical: All lifting operations must be directed by a qualified signal person (rigger), and the lift plan (including slinging configuration, angles, and travel path) must be approved in advance.
